Isaac Asimov was a Russian-born American science fiction writer and biochemist. He was born on January 2, 1920, in Petrovichi, Russia and immigrated to the United States with his family, when he was three years old. Asimov was a prolific writer, publishing more than 500 books in his lifetime. He is best known for his science fiction works, including, the Foundation series, the Robot series, and the Galactic Empire series.
Asimov began his writing career while still in his teens, publishing science fiction stories in various magazines. He received his Bachelor's degree, in chemistry, from Columbia University in 1939, and went on to earn a PhD in biochemistry, from the same institution in 1948. In addition to his writing, Asimov also worked as a professor of biochemistry at Boston University, for many years.
Asimov was a highly respected and influential figure in the science fiction community. He was a member of the Science Fiction Writers of America, and served as the organization's president from 1971-1973. Asimov received numerous awards for his writing, including, the Hugo Award, the Nebula Award, and the Bram Stoker Award.
Asimov's science fiction works are known for their attention to detail, and scientific accuracy. He was a firm believer in the power of science and technology to improve the human condition, and often used his writing as a means to explore the potential consequences of scientific advancement. In addition to his science fiction writing, Asimov was also a prolific non-fiction writer, publishing works on a wide range of topics, including science, mathematics, and history.
Asimov passed away on April 6, 1992 at the age of 72. Despite his passing, his legacy as a pioneer of science fiction, and as a champion of science and reason, lives on.
